Take Aways

It is too soon after an event like today's to really write about what I experienced. The first ever Minnesota Blogger Conference was today and I was totally inspired. The conference organizers did a great job of bringing in relevant speakers and the networking time was wonderful. I met so many just fantastic people.

There is something pretty wonderful about getting so many creative and talented people in one room. The energy was high and I was hoping that some of that creativeness would rub off on me. Time will tell on that one but there definitely were many take aways from the day.

First, I just have to say that the very most favorite thing I took away from today is that there are many reasons for blogging. Everyone has a story to tell and those stories are amazing. These online writers that I met today speak from their hearts. They are sincere. When Heather and Matt spoke today there wasn't a dry eye in the room. The authenticity was refreshing and oh so raw.

Second, I got some clarity on where this blog is going. For now. This is my blog and a place for me to be real and authentic and write my story. My families story. If I speak from my heart and write about things that are important to me then that is success. I will grow over time and a year from now the blog may be totally different and hopefully I am a better writer. For me it isn't about number of readers or page hits. My purpose is to write about life and family and faith and maybe even a tiny bit of politics. I write for me. Period.

Third... Well, I have many thoughts swimming around in my head but having a really hard time putting them to "paper". Today was so great but information overload has happened. Thought provoking overload. Need some time to get my thoughts in order!

Until then, I look forward to more opportunities to spend time with the fab writers I met today. Truly inspiring.

i have to say that i have said before that my blog was about me and my life, nothing more. i have had some things going on behind the scenes preventing me from being true and honest about what i write. i finally made the step to correct that problem. i'm sure you noticed my blog has changed. i needed to make in inaccessable to a few people. now, i feel like i can write from my heart again. this is my story. i want to be able to tell it my way.

i wish i could have gone today. i would have loved to meet you and spend time soaking in all the awesomeness in the room. i can't wait to hear more about the day!

Nice timely post. It is nice to know I am not the only one who needs time to get thoughts in order.

It was so nice to see all of the different reasons MN people are blogging. We are so lucky to have such a terrific social media community here in the Twin Cities. I enjoyed visiting with old friends and meeting some new ones as well. Best to you!

A blogging conference sounds like a wonderful learning experience. I hope to one day be able to attend one, meet other bloggers and learn even more! :)

I blog for me, as well. But when I write, I pretend I'm telling the story to my 2 best friends from high school. They always laughed (when appropriate, of course!) and made me feel like the funniest person ever. It helps to clarify the story if I imagine the audience. That being said...I write what I want to write.

It really was so great. Exactly what you said--all that creativity in one place. I had such a great time.

Thank you for what you said. It means a lot :)

Yes, writing for yourself is important. I just started writing in the last month and unveiled my writing to my friends in the last few days. It was scary. I told many people I was writing but not those in my immediate circle b/c they don't get the idea of blogging but neither do I really! I just love reading other people's stories and hope other people enjoy reading mine....

I agree, it's so meaningful to have a place to be authentic, isn't it?! Great to finally meet you in person.

It was so great to meet you on Saturday! Who would have thought that a trip to find coffee would turn into an hour long chat? There were so many wonderful things about Saturday and our little field trip was high on the list!

Tina, so glad you were able to be at the conference. I've had a tough time putting my experience into words as well. I also sat in Heather's and Matt's presentations and found the power of their personal story to be amazing. I always favor stories over stats... :)

Love that you write from your heart - it really comes out in your writing, and makes it a great read.
