That was me yesterday. C-R-A-N-K-Y!
I knew it was going to be a long day. My weekly cervix check and Dr appt was scheduled around my 3-hour glucose test. For those of you unaware of this test, it is used to determine if you have gestational diabetes. You fast after midnight, get a blood draw when you get there, then drink a very sugary drink. Then your blood is drawn once an hour for three hours.
We had a very frustrating experience at the lab. I usually go to the lab in Maple Grove and have had this test a number of times. They are great. But since I wanted to combine this appt with my dr appt I did the test at the lab at our new clinic. They were sooooo slow and only had one of the three working there that knew what they were doing. I got there for my 8:30 appt and it was 8:55 before they started the clock for my first hour. And then at the end of each hour they were so slow in getting to me and getting my blood drawn. We were more than 30 minutes over what we should have been. Which meant we were 5 minutes late for my Dr appt and I didn't get any lunch in between. Luckily Chad packed me some crackers. Remember I haven't eaten since my snack before bed the night before and it is now 12:20 pm. Ugh.
Then I had my cervix check. Now since I had been at the clinic since early that morning I wasn't really expecting to see any major improvements. I did recline for that 3 err I mean 4 hour test but I still felt worn from that and being out of the house. But it was worse than just not improving. I could tell immediately from the ultrasound that my "funnel" was much wider. The tech said that my stitches looked ok but then measured only 0.4 cm which would be way less than the stitches so she remeasured. And I was at about a 1.24 while my cerclage was placed at 1.5. She said the stitches can hold but may stretch a little bit. My favorite part though is looking at the baby and seeing the heartbeat. And we did that and she looks great!
We then met with the Dr. The conservative Dr. Who we like but definitely is the most conservative of them all. She is the one that placed me in the hospital over night for observation a week or so ago. Well, she was not happy with how things were looking. Good news is still I am not showing any signs of contracting. But then why is the cervix still shortening?
She decided that it was necessary for me to get the steroid shots that day. I mentioned in the last post that the other Dr we saw didn't think that would be needed until 28+ weeks as long as things are stable. But this Dr thought it was necessary. After some discussion we agreed. And then she mentions that if next week when we go in and things have not improved she is going to "talk" to us about hospital bed rest. Ugh. And we have learned that when she says "talk" she means make sure you have a bag packed because I will send you right up to the 3rd floor after your appt.
We went home and back to the strictest of strict bed rest. I know that some things are out of my control but it is so hard to be doing everything I think I can and then not see improvement. Will have to see how next week looks. So, this next week we will be putting our contingency plans in place. Just in case. Just in case I am spending the next who knows how many weeks in the hospital.
So, between a bad lab experience, no lunch, naughty cervix, more shots!, and the mention of hospital bed rest - I was cranky! Justified right? :)
Some Doritos and a stupid test

More than justified!
I hope that you don't end up in the hospital and can continue your bed rest at home.
And i haven't forgotten about your package. It's spring break here, and I haven't made it to the post office because I have all four kids at home. Eeek.
Totally justified. I'm sure sitting in uncomfortable waiting room chairs for 4 hours did not help cervical matters. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that things start to improve. I know how frustrating it can be to work so hard at keeping things stable and then things destabilize before your eyes.
Be cranky...you have every right. Everything about that day is lousy.
