Vacation vs. Staycation

Who says you need to drive far away to have a good vacation?!? This last weekend we were going to go camping with the Vosbergs again (minus the mini donuts). As it got closer to the time we started talking about doing a "staycation" instead. And I am sure glad we did! We had the perfect combination of relaxation and activity, had a great time just hanging out and enjoying each others company, and the kids couldn't get enough of each other. Here are the highlights!

Thursday night we enjoyed a relaxing dinner and night with games and conversations. The game of Sorry (which I won by the way) turned into a million dollar game idea of "Stack the Sorry Pieces"! Not everyone thought I was on to something until I stacked 7, yes 7, pieces on top of each other. Pretty impressive huh? Go ahead and try it. It is not easy.

Friday's weather was beautiful and we spent a good 4 hours at the Y pool in Shoreview! They have a toddler pool which was just perfect for the kids and the adults really enjoyed lounging and getting some reading in.

Friday night we got a sitter and headed out to Rossi's Blue Star jazz club in Mpls. They had live music which was good but the real entertainment for the night was our waiter, Steven Price. I really can't even put into words how interesting our waiter was and the conversations that we got into with him. Seriously, there are no words! It left us all "hmming" all the way home! Check out that $15 dessert we got too!

Saturday was another beautiful day and we headed to Minnehaha Falls park with the bikes in tow. We biked up to Fort Snelling and spent a few hours at the old fort. Hard to believe that I had never been there before! No, not even in 6th grade. My field trip that year consisted of the Capitol and Como Park only?! It was also Civil War weekend so there was a little more activity going on! And thanks to the Museum Adventure Pass it was free! That really is a great program by the way!

Saturday night after going to church together we headed to our house for a night of appetizers and games! We got Rock Band last week for our PS2 and found that we really enjoy rocking out with the drums and guitar! And it was even more fun to add in the rest of the band with the Vosbergs! And I seriously just discovered that my true calling was to be a drummer and not a flautist! If only I would have realized that earlier in my life. But when I tried out for band I had the perfect triangle on my first attempt on the flute. (You other flautists know what I mean, right?) I don't even think I tried my hands on the drums. I wonder how my life would be different.

OK, sorry back from dream world! Ha! Sunday's weather wasn't so perfect so we didn't feel so bad about having a lazy, and I mean L-A-Z-Y day in the house with Rock Band and Wii close by! It was a nice way to cap off a great weekend! We really should plan these "staycations" more often!
