So, this has been an ongoing discussion point for the husband and I for a long time. Here is the scenario...
We are at a Dairy Queen or other ice cream establishment. We could even be at home enjoying a bowl of ice cream. I look over at Chad and see the grimacing face he is making like he is in pain.
I say, "Oh, did you get a brain freeze?"
He looks at me like I am crazy and says, "NO! I have a throat freeze. The ice cream goes down my throat and not into my forehead!"
Ok, I really do know how the digestive system works but when I eat ice cream my head hurts and I have commonly heard that referred to as a "brain freeze". Now, he doesn't pretend to not know that brain freeze is a commonly used phrase but he does contend that he has never had a brain freeze, just a throat freeze.
You would think that after almost 8 years of marriage I could avoid this conversation but for some reason we have it EVERY time we get ice cream!
So, here is the question. Do you get brain freezes when you eat ice cream or do you get throat freezes? Or both, I suppose?

Obviously I'm a little biased on this one (given my upbringing), but it's definitely "Brain Freeze."
For a more "objective" basis, "Brain Freeze" has 583,000 hits on Google (including a Wikipedia entry), and "Throat Freeze" has only 737 hits. Also note that the Wikipedia entry lists a handfull of alternative names for Brain Freeze, none of which include Throat Freeze...
Sorry, Chad, but I gotta side with Tina on this one...
Definitely brain freeze...darn constricting blood vessels in our mouth.
Sorry Chad, but we will side with you on "duck duck goose"!!
