We headed up to Banning State Park which is just north of Hinkley on Friday the 6th of June. Got to our campsite and really thought it was a nice campground. And actually I don't know if I can think of any campgrounds that we haven't liked in the MN park system! We are lucky to have so many gems in this state!
The only downside to our camping weekend and just generally camping this time of the year is the mosquitoes! And the population of them really did explode that weekend. At the c
ampsite was bad enough but tolerable that we felt ok being outside but when we decided to try a hike it was pretty miserable. We couldn't really stop on our hike because when we did the mosquitoes would swarm! Just keep on going. And it was too bad because it was a really nice trail along the Kettle River with some interesting history of past quarrying that was done in this area. There were more trails too that I would have liked to check out but will have to save that for another trip to Banning.
Kate
and Anna had fun playing at the campsite and in the camper! Anna just loves being a big sister to Kate! The adults had a nice time just relaxing, reading, and playing some games. It was a nice weekend. Those two night trips go too fast and before you know it we are on our way back home. But we did so much enjoy our time with the Greens and loved getting Kate out on her first "camping" trip (although her Daddy would argue that what we did really wasn't camping! :) Still counts for something!)
