Hodge Podge

I am at a loss. Blank. I have nothing. I asked Chad to help me think of a topic to blog about and he wasn't much help. Seriously. Asked my google chat friend and she didn't help either. I got sex or bacon from her. I told her that I would blog about bacon and it would be the shortest blog ever.

I like bacon.

The end.

But I do really love bacon. I don't like it too crispy but not too soft either. It is quite a challenge to cook the perfect bacon. isn't it? And while I do love bacon, I enjoy a good sausage now and again too. Breakfast foods in general. Yummy. Pancakes or waffles? Depends on the day I suppose. Most days I would say pancakes.

Riveting writing, huh?

For the last two days we have gotten Anna on her bike and went for a family walk. Now tell me, why didn't we do that more over the summer? It has been so nice these last two nights to walk to the park and get in some good family time. I love the time it gives Chad and I to just be in each other's presence and talk. Those random talks that just don't happen when the TV is on or the kids are playing around us. Even if we just catch up on what the rest of the week is bringing, it is great.

Anna still has training wheels on her bike. She is 6 3/4. We are working on it and hopefully before the snow flies this year she will be training wheels free. But then it will be winter and she will have 6 months of not riding. Will she forget the tricks by next spring?

We have been exclusively using cloth diapers now for two months. I would say it has been a success. Both Chad and our daycare provider have been using them too and seem to be ok with it. It really is easy and would love to talk to anyone who is hesitant to use them. There are a few tricks of the trade that I learned from an avid user and would love to pass on that information.

There was a story of a man in the Twin Cities that was reported as being kidnapped. He didn't show to pick up his child from daycare on Friday. Phone call from WI Dells to his wife saying he was kidnapped and then his van was found parked in downtown Chicago. While I pray that he comes home safely no matter what the circumstances, a radio host this morning commented that Dave Mathews Band was playing at Wriggly Field in Chicago last weekend and wouldn't it be interesting if that was just his story to cover up his trek to Chicago to see them play. You know people flock from all around to see DMB, it could be true.

That story got Chad and I thinking, what would you make up a kidnapping story for?

I don't really have a band that I follow or anything similar that would require me to make up a story like that. Maybe after a stressful week I would take off on a vacation to an all inclusive in a sunny and warm location. Just for a break. Just a weekend.

How about you?

Do you like bacon?

How do you find time to connect and communicate with your significant other?

Have any tips on how to train a child to ride a bike?

Any cloth diapering questions?

What would you make up a kidnapping story for?

And what should I blog about tomorrow?

I cant say I have ever trained a child to ride without training wheels, but I can say my own experience learning was when my parents took us to the ball field and took my training wheels off and it was live and learn - which I did both! As far as topics - my sister said that she would come up with topics if anyone needed any help (which I forgot to mention, opps!) - so I asked her for some ideas for you and after a round about of things, she came up with a few... "Is money the root of all evil" "The best gift I ever received" "The best thing about being a mom" "I wish I didnt know now, what I didnt know then" "How many times do you think about God in a day" "If I could go back in time I would go here" .... just some things to maybe get an idea of your own or something, hope they help :)

MEg had trouble not wanting to get rid of her training wheels until she finally crashed a few times because she was turning corners and they actually got in the way. After her telling me I was mean and taking them off and leaving for a ride while camping, she realized that Mom's actually do know a few things and now she rides her bike everywhere and loves it. Give it time- she will figure it out.
I like bacon, no sausage
Kidnap me with my family any day
And I already forgot the other stuff you asked........ Love your blog! Cute!

I think it is rather interesting that the two above comments referred to a live and learn philosophy with the bike riding. Glad to know I wasn't the only meanie! :)

I have no idea how to teach a child to ride without training wheels, remember a few blog posts back, both Mike and I MISSED Madison learning to ride. Just take the darn things off and throw a helmet on her. She'll get it!

Bacon - YUM. Check out Becky Higgins blog, she has her own way of cooking bacon. I haven't tried it yet, but I think its a good way to get it right every time.

Oh - and I truly think that if I don't get a scrapbooking retreat weekend away from Hubby and Kids soon - I'll be making up a kidnapping story for that. Kidding. Sort of.

Sorry, but I am not the biggest bacon fan, but if it was burnt and crispy I might dig in for a few! When the kids are in bed at night, seems to be the only time the hubs and I get our chance to talk and catch up with each other, have to take what we can get right! No tips on the bike, Grant turned 6 this July and still has training wheels. He will go in spurts without them, but at this late in the season, I'm with you, how will they figure it out again next summer!
I do travel far to see DMB play!!! However, I would never make up a kidnapping story to do so! The hubby knows I travel far for them and only them!
Tomorrow, hmm, we just found out up here that Extreme home makeover is coming to Fargo soon to do a home! I think that is exciting and can't wait to volunteer! Here's to getting creative Tina!!!

Bike riding w/out training wheels: Peer pressure. Several of the neighbor kids, smaller than my daughter, were suddenly tooling all over the place on two wheels. She got serious motivation from that. We took off the trainers and she worked on it nonstop for one entire afternoon, probably close to 4 hours, and by that evening she was riding without training wheels.

I do like bacon but it's got to be overcooked. I don't want to see much white/fat parts.

And I can tell you why you weren't out doing family walks much this summer. Because it rained all of July, and it was 97 degrees all of August. And in June we still thought we had all summer so it wasn't a priority.

Where's the section on sex? :) Ha ha just kidding....

I have fallen in love with turkey bacon. Less grease and not as fatty looking and tastes about the same I think.

I wanna know about cloth diapers! What kind do you use? How did you get daycare to use them?

BACON! Honestly, one of my pre-determined list of topics for the blog-a-thon is "Why I Love Bacon" ... but I might not end up needing that one. It was a reserve for a short post day.

Cloth diapers, yes, we're interested to know. Hopefully we'll have a reason soon to learn about them, either way though...

As for bike riding, I have some friends who got their toddler a push-bike, which is a bike without pedals where they just push with their feet. He is now 3, almost 4, and has been riding a bike without training wheels all summer. Seems to be the way to go, but at 6 years old, just take the training wheels off. She probably doesn't need them any more, but just thinks she does.
