A Few Less Teeth

One Cavity Filling ~ Two Shaved Teeth ~ Three Teeth Pulled

I think there is a song in there somewhere!

For a few months we knew that Anna would be going in this week for her first filling of a cavity in one of her back baby teeth. Then last month we noticed that one of her permanent teeth was coming in behind one of her bottom front baby teeth. I panicked and went to the Twitter and Facebook and was relieved to hear how common that really was. Don't fret too much was the message I got from you all and the dentist confirmed that. But the dentist also said that if she didn't lose that baby tooth before this appointment that she would recommend pulling it.

Anna was determined to lose that tooth before the dentist could pull it and the night before Easter she went in the bathroom and pulled it out. Sounds tough but I am told it was hanging only by a thread anyway. But still. She pulled it out. So the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny got together that night to deliver their goods. And she thought (as did we) that she was good to go.

Fast forward to the appointment today. There was enough anxiety about the cavity filling for sure. But for that we are thankful for "the gas" along with a movie to watch. According to Chad she actually did really well. But when the dentist started getting in there she saw that another permanent tooth was coming in behind a baby tooth and they need more room to come in straight and have a better chance (although no guarantees) of not needing braces in the future. So therefore, three teeth needed to be pulled to make room and while the dentist was at it she thought why not have a little extra room by shaving off a bit of the next teeth to be sure there is room.

I would have been a wreck after an appointment like that. Done for. All tears. There were some tears from Anna but not long after the appointment I was talking to her on the web cam and her spirits were good and she was feeling pretty normal. She told me how much she liked the gas and how cool it was that she got to watch a movie while she was there. She also thinks her mouth looks a little scary and not sure she will open her mouth all day tomorrow at school. We will see.

Another visit from the Tooth Fairy tonight. How much do you get for three teeth at once? And what does the Tooth Fairy do with all those teeth? And really why is there even such a thing as the Tooth Fairy?

Ohhhhhhh, that gas is a good thing....
