Oink Oink

H1N1 aka Swine Flu has hit our house. Or at least that is what we think it is. See they don't recommend you actually go in and get tested to see if that is what you have. So those numbers of people they show on the news are probably REALLY low if all these people are staying at home and not getting tested.

So for the last 36 hours we have been eating ice cream, laying in bed, watching movies, eating McDonald's, watching more movies, begging Anna to drink her fluids, watching movies, reading books, and watching movies. Yep, that pretty much sums it up. Luckily we "had to" take the Hannah Montana movie back to Redbox. Don't think I could watch that movie one more time!

As of this writing, Anna is doing really well. Her temp dropped to level green right before bed tonight. We have an almost continual record of her temp since she got sick on Thursday night. Our favorite past time is taking her temp and waiting to see if it will be green, yellow, or the dreaded red! It was red ALL day yesterday but today we dipped into the yellow and finally tonight - GREEN! She did have Tylenol a few hours ago so we will see if it has actually broken or just aided by medicine. We have our fingers crossed that she wakes feeling great!

You know there really aren't many things worse than having a sick child. I felt so helpless and out of control when she was at her worst last night. I hated the second guessing on whether or not to bring her in. News stories of other children with H1N1 go through my head. Ones without good outcomes. Trying to debate if she is unresponsive or just dead tired. Praying that her 104 fever drops after taking medicine. Worrying about night time and asking Chad to wake up periodically to check on her. The worst is wanting to cuddle with her and take care of her but at the same time wanting to keep my distance so that I don't get it too!

Not that having a sick child doesn't have it's positives too! There is something very satisfying to having a child that is 100% dependent on you. Counting on you. And while we had a fabulous weekend planned with our friends (Rock Band night, hiking at a state park, an adults only night out), it has been nice to just be home as a family. Getting some projects done around the house. Quality time.

School recommendations are for kids to stay home 5-7 days when exhibiting flu like symptoms. Do all parents honor that? Probably not. Will we. Of course. My husband is the ultimate rule follower. So that brings us to at least Wednesday before she goes back to school. At least we can split the time off and we have flexible schedules and understanding bosses.

And now, time to head back to Redbox.

Oh I hope you kind of "enjoy" this time with your daughter, even if she is sick. Hope she gets well soon. And make sure Mom gets some loving care too. :)

Hoping for a speedy recovery! I enjoy extra cuddles and down time when the kids are sick. Our school system has a "fever free for 24 hrs" policy. Our oldest missed two days a few weeks ago due to fever =(.
