And We'll See You Tomorrow Night

Yes you will! What a great game last night. In case you have no idea what I am talking about, the Twins (MN baseball team) beat the Tigers last night in a tie breaker game to advance into the playoffs. And that is only part of the story. They did it in a 12 inning, almost 5 hour battle to the end. Both teams had multiple opportunities to bring in the winning run and failed, until the bottom of the 12th.

Seeing the homer hankies waving inside the Dome made me a little nostalgic and sad that this is the last season in the Dome. So much Twins magic happened in that Dome. So many of my childhood memories.

At the end of the last "regular" season game, a ceremony was held to commemorate the "last" game in the Dome. Many former players came back to say good bye to the baseball home that brought in 2 world series championships. A look back at the top 100 moments in the Dome were shown and many players introduced. It brought a lot of tears to my eyes. It is amazing how nostalgic moments like that bring you back to 6th grade, 1987.

Mr. Crocker and Mr. Stupar were probably the biggest Twins fans in our elementary school. I was lucky they were my teachers at the time. One of them brought in a TV, one with a dial. Actually, it is reminiscent of this TV that was in my Dr's clinic a couple of weeks ago. We all huddled around it for those daytime games. I am pretty sure every single kid in that class had a Twins shirt or sweatshirt on and homer hanky in hand. I seem to remember our teachers getting into a little trouble from the principal for being too loud during school. Were we doing a lot of learning during that time? Probably not but we were making memories!

It wasn't much different at home. You see, my mom and dad were HUGE Twins fans and we had been to many, many games in my youth. Many nights were spent yelling at the TV, mom going into the bathroom because she couldn't bear to watch, and a lot of jumping up and down. We each had our favorite players. David loved Kent Hrbek, mom cheered on Frankie Viola, and me? Well, I loved Gary Gaetti. It was great fun to see them all there this past week to remember those World Series moments in the Dome.

What fun it would be for this young and impressive Twins team to exit the Dome in the same fashion as those 87 and 91 teams! The fans are ready and waiting. We have been waiting a long time! Let's add to the impressive list of highlights in the Dome. It can't be over yet!

Go Twins!
