June has been a busy month! I have two camping trips, Walking with Dinosaurs and still need to get pictures up from CA. Man have I been having problems with that!
But first tonight I want to share some of my thoughts on Tim Russert's death. It is always interesting to me how the media and the general public react to celebrity deaths. And my reaction to them always makes me stop and ponder the "impact" that person that I have never met before had on my life.
As you should know by now as I have mentioned it more than a couple of times in the last few months is that I am a political junkie. I love all things politics. And where did I get the fuel for my fire, Meet the Press. I have been regularly watching Meet the Press for as long as I can remember. I remember watching it in high school, in college, and now in my married world. I TiVo it every week and look forward to seeing who the guests are and who is going under the Tim Russert microscope this week.
I was so sad to hear of his death and really mourned what we have lost in the political journalist world. Tim was the master of interviewing politicians. I loved how he fairly and smartly interviewed the guests. I always felt like he asked the questions that I would want to ask. He didn't shy away from the questions that were on everyone's minds. And he didn't let them get around the answers if he felt they were being less than honest. He really was a master because he always did it in a civilized manner. And you knew that he was respected.
I know there are a lot of people on the NBC affiliate channels talking about what a great guy Tim Russert was and that is usually the case when a celebrity passes. But for some reason when I hear each and every on of those colleagues talking about how Tim was their friend and he would do anything for them I believe it. That is the same personality that came across on the TV. He seemed like the type of person that would be instant best friends with everyone he met.
Of course I feel great sympathy for his family and friends but we have also lost a great journalist and a great resource for this election year. It will take someone very special to fill those shoes and led viewers to November. I know that I will miss his take on things whether it be on Meet the Press, the Today Show, or Nightly News. It won't be the same without him.
